Workout Hairstyle

As you transition from relaxed to natural hair, you do not want to give up your workout routine.  I have been trying to figure out a good work out hairstyle that won’t look a hot mess after 45 minutes to 1 hour of cardio and I think I’ve got it!

I did a blow out using my blow dryer on low and warm (instead of high and hot) and then I did a twist out using Shea Moisture Leave In conditioner mixed with Kinky Curly Curling Custard (KCCC).   I mixed the two together – 2 tablespoons of KCCC and 2 tablespoons of Shea Moisture.  I had a lot of product left over so you can probably just use 1 tablespoon of each product depending on the length of your hair.  I sprayed a tiny bit of water on my hands and then worked with my now slightly moist hair section by section to comb through the product and twist.  I have tried wet set twist outs but my 4a hair is fine so that it takes a few days to look fluffy and full the way I prefer.  I have tried KCCC with the Knot Today leave in (I had a gift card for Targt) and that combination gave me a jheri curl look.  My hair did have movement with the KCCC, which I liked.

The jheri curl look is because my curly hair grows out and not down.  It’s fine hair so it’s not heavy enough to give my hair any length solely from the weight of the hair.

I have tried Shea Moisture leave in many times but never with a gel to give it more hold.  Once I run out of KCCC, I intend to use another gel combination, maybe Eco Styler although that gel gave my hair a bit more crunch than I prefer.  I have also tried flaxseed gel (made it at home) and it did work well so that is an option.

If you do not want to use heat, you can do a flexi rod set or air dried roller set to stretch your hair.

Forgive the sweaty photos but I wanted you to see that this was not a light workout and my hair still looked nice once I removed my headband.

As you can see, I have big hair (albeit thin) so I need to use my large shower cap (video below) to avoid squishing my curls.

Feel free to post details about your workout hairstyles.
