Nautilus Bun with extensions

I decided to try a different kind of bun for my natural hair – a nautilus bun. It was really late and I was preparing my hair in two strand twists to blend with a half wig the next day.  I pulled out some leftover Marley Braid hair and played around with it.  The nautilus bun was super fast and required no bobby pins or clips.

I two strand twisted the Marley hair to make it easier to work with, but you do not have to twist or braid the hair.  The hair is about 30 inches long.  If you do not want to wrap the hair around twice, you can use shorter hair.  I attached an ouchless band to the weave hair and then used that same ouchless band to attach the braid extension to my own hair.  My hair was put into a tight bun with a second ouchless band.  I did not use any gel or holding product to smooth down my hair since it was late and I was just playing around.

I recorded it here: http://youtu.be/tCBoldF6s4k

I went out and bought Marley hair ($4.99) to match my hair color and tried it again.  The photos are below.  I smoothed my hair with Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La ($6.99), which I was testing out to seal in moisture.  I soaked the ouchless bands in oil so they do not snag or dry out my hair.

I wore this hairstyle out to a party and it was still in place after dancing all night!

Let me know if you try out this bun.  I’d love to know how it looks with other curly textures of hair!
