The Journey Begins – 3 Days Post Relaxer – Transitioning from Relaxed to Natural Hair

My first roller set – Mesh rollers

This was my very first roller set done on my own and  I cannot really say that I roller set natural hair since I was only 3 days post relaxer.

I attempted my first full roller set with mesh rollers. I was never good with magnetic rollers on my own and at the time I did not own a hood dryer.

I air dried my hair.  The longest part of the rolling process was trying to keep the rollers from falling out.

I had minimal hair loss when roller setting. I did a cool rinse after washing my hair because I read some place that it helps close the cuticle. I lost the most hair when I sprayed the final section with water (that was a little too warm) to finish my set so I think there is some truth to a final cool rinse when washing.

Prior to my roller set, I did a pre-treatment on dry hair with Keraphix and a conditioning cap for 30 minutes and then washed once with Creme of Nature Shampoo (the green bottle before they changed the formula).  I put on a ton of Garnier Fructis sleek & shine conditioner while I showered, rinsed and then tried to figure out mesh rollers and pins.  I really should have practiced on dry hair.

The photos show my hair after about 4 hours in rollers and air drying. It was completely dry but I do think the curls fell immediately.  At the time I figured that I would get better results under a hooded dryer so I did purchase a Pibbs hood dryer like I had seen at many salons.

I did not expect my first roller set to turn out well at all so I was prepared to wrap it. Luckily I bought some hair clips at the beauty supply store that same day when I picked up the rollers, pins and hair net. I pinned curled the hair.  I had no idea what to expect when I pinned up my hair after the roller set, but it came out pretty cute. I moisturized the ends and twisted random sections around my fingers and pinned. It was simple and random so I presume with some better placement of the pin curls that I can get a more uniform look.

At this time, I had not yet decided to transition to natural hair.  I was only planning to strecth my relaxers.  Prior to this last relaxer (3 days post relaxer at this time) I had stretched my relaxer for 18 weeks and 3 days.
