Stop Shrinkage – Day 2 hair ASAP

Most of you who follow my blog know that I have been trying to get day 2 or day 3 hair immediately after wash day.  It typically takes my hair a day or two to fall the way I like it after I set my twist out on wet hair.  Well, I have finally gotten second day hair on day one!  How did I do it?  First I will admit I did not expect it to work so I did not take any video and I only took photos of the finished hair, not the entire process.

Just so you know that it really did work, the photos are here:

Instead of doing a wet set twist out on my soaking wet hair, I let my hair air dry in six braids overnight.  I had washed my hair in the evening and rinsed out my deep conditioner before bed.  I applied my leave in conditioner mix and braided my hair.  The next morning, I applied my styling products and put my stretched, damp hair in twists.

I used Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme (used sample packet) and John Frieda Frizz Ease Clearly Defined gel on each section.  I only had to use a very small amount of each product, a fingertip amount.  My hair was in 17 twists, 16 from the initial 6 braids and 1 smaller piece in the front which was to be my leave out hair for a half wig in case the style did not work.  I had used Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme and Shea Moisture Curling Souffle on that one section, before I reached for the John Frieda.

To my surprise, I had second day hair that was hanging the way I like right away instead of having to stretch my hair in a pineapple (high ponytail) overnight.  My hair feels soft and moisturized but it also has hold.  I think this product combination is a keeper.  Since I was still using my Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme sample, I went ahead and ordered a full size jar during their annual BOGO (buy one, get one free) sale.  Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme is a pricey product and I was very reluctant to try it for fear of wasting my money or in the alternative loving the product and having to spend so much money to keep it in my rotation.  I had the John Frieda gel already after having bought it last minute during a work trip.  Instead of using the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle for my entire head, I figured I would use up the John Frida since I had no plan to purchase it again.  The one section with the Curling Souffle did not feel as soft.

I intend to experiment with different gels that I already own to see which one, if any, will give me the same results as the John Frieda gel.  I have huge jars of Eco Styler Olive Oil gel and Eco Styler Argan Oil gel that I intend to try.

Let me know if you try this product combination and how it works for you!
