Hair Growth Rate

I learned during my transition from relaxed to natural that my hair does not grow at the average rate of 1/2 (.5 inch) per month.  In fact, when I took the time to measure one of my curls, I found that I was closer to a growth rate of 4.5 inches per year rather than 6 inches.   For those of you who think that you are the only one with this problem, just know that you are not.  Shrinkage of natural hair also contributes to thinking that your hair is not growing.

Some people also presume that their hair is not growing when in fact it is retaining the hair that is the problem.  In my case, since my hair does not grow super fast, I protective style often to gain more length.  Of course there are people who keep their hair cut into a particular hairstyle, rather than just letting it grow longer, but my goal is longer, natural hair.
