Flat Ironing Natural Hair – detailed steps, products and tools

Flat Ironing Natural Hair

I have finally gotten a process down for flat ironing my 100% natural hair.  It seems like a lot of work; however, the results come out well and it lasts for a while with no reversion.  A video is below.

My steps are:

pre shampoo treatment, called a “pre poo” (aloe vera juice, jojoba oil, coconut oil)

detangle (Tangle Teezer)

wash (Creme of Nature)

aphogee protein treatment

deep condition overnight (Megasilk)

heat protectant treatment and spray (Chi Infra and Nioxin Bliss)

blow dry with tension method (FHI Nano Salon Pro 2000)

flat iron (FHI Runway)

These are the products and tools that work for me.  Feel free to use whatever products and tools that work for you.

In the video I put on a half wig after I completed my flat iron process.  This was because I did not want to trim my ends to a blunt cut and I was on my way to work.  Once I reach my goal of bra strap length hair, I will possibly get a trim to even out the bottom layer of my hair.  I have been growing out layers for some time.  It takes a while for the shorter layers to catch up.
